Robert Dillon and James Sherwood of the Newburgh circuit were the first ministers in full-time. This was in 1810. Henry Stead was the Presiding Elder or District Superintendent. In 1811 we were added to the Philadelphia Conference where we stayed until the formation of the Newark Conference in 1858. From that time on there followed an illustrious and occasionally controversial succession of ministers, each of whom left his influence and effect, not only on the life of the church, but on the community as well.
